President John F. Kennedy: I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project in this time period will be more impressive to Mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space. And none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.
America became a much respected country after the cold war and were depended upon for the latest technology.
Now that I have explained the history behind Apollo 11, what were the effects?
There were several effects caused by the Apollo 11 moon landing. Raggedy dolls became robots. Movies started becoming more sci-fi related. Songs and quotes were made anew. One of the quotes commonly used was “If they can send man to the moon, then why can’t they _______?” The final blank was filled with different requests from “find a cure to cancer” to “manage the economy”. Songs were also changed, such songs as- American Moon and Whitey on The Moon. Later on in the music industry, Michal Jackson came along; he brought moon-walking down to earth. MTV was also created after Apollo 11. Also many other creative inventions, such as: space pens, video games, golf balls, and freeze dried food. Even fashion got a new idea to work off of. (Moon Girl by André Courrèges.)
How did these effects change people?
Ms. Sellars, the school librarian at LMS, didn't think that there was much change afterwards. She said that yes, the music and movie industry had some new material to work with but it didn't change people. She did, however, think that the Apollo landing had a different effect on people than just a change in style.
The Apollo 11 moon landing gave Americans a feeling of success. We achieved the near impossible by sending a man to the moon. If we had not done this, most of the technology in the world would most likley have been made by Russia. My reasoning being that the world would have seen Russia's success and entrusted them with their technology making. America came in first, however, and we have created many beneficial and amazing pieces of technology since.
Star Wars, created in 1977, was influenced by the sudden 'Moon Phase' that Americans went into. It's incredible to believe that such a great movie could be created by such an impossible idea.
